Professor Kim Wins Gold in Pans!!
PROFESSOR KIM HAS JUST WON HER FIRST PAN JIU JITSU CHAMPIONSHIP AS A BLACK BELT!!
First, if you are not familiar with the Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship (commonly known as Pan Ams), is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in North America. The event is held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. And yesterday was Professor Kim first Pan Ams in the Black Belt.
Now she has won the Pans at purple, brown and finally on her black belt, but this one is the most special and significant event for her and as an instructor and I am going explain why, and also the things I learned from this trip.
We were getting ready for this Pans (Pans Black Belt Debut) 7 months ago, but 10 days before the event, Kim had an accident and dislocated her elbow in a competition training.
“That injury was a huge setback for me both physically and mentally, but it just made me hungrier and more aware of how deep my passion for the sport lies.”
I was very sad because I knew how important was this event for her but I truly believe everything happens for a reason, something changed inside her and I saw it, she has always been one of the most dedicated people I’ve seen on the mats, but after the injury, she had a different level of dedication.
Contrary to what the doctor recommended, she was on the mat starting to DRILL and train a little bit with the arm wrapped in belt, right away started to work on her cardio and doing other things that she was able to do without using the arm, once she was able to move and use the arm better started a strength and condition program, we want back to basic drills and sharping tools, the diet was super on point (first time I have ever seen her weight her food).
She really put in the work, never missed a training, even the next day after the dislocation was on the mat teaching the kids. I’m really not saying this to throw flowers at her, but hopping this motivates you (regardless of what your goals are) to not only wish for things to happen but to go after them! To dream is not enough, you have to HUNT YOUR DREAMS! And I feel thats what she is doing.
To wrap this up.
Whether you want to get better on the mats, self defense or a gold medal around your neck. Understand that your bag-o-bones doesn’t care. Your body’s job is to keep you alive in the most efficient way possible.
So it will only adapt to improve your strength, cardio, technique, etc if you challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone, building discipline and good habits.
